Letter From my Adopted Daughter

We sponsor four kids at Made in the Streets: Mary, Mwanahawa, Zainabu and Duncan. Getting to hug them, sit next to them and get to know them is THE highlight of my trips. They are all unique and amazing. When I am here they call me dad, party as a joke but mostly because thats the way they see me.

All of the students here write back and forth with their sponsors in the ‘States, but few soonsors get to have their letters hand delivered. I am blessed. I just wanted to share a letter that Mary handed me yesterday after classes. Reading it made me proud and humble at the same time. Its a letter to my two daughters back home:

Dear Laura and KateĀ 27 July 2010

I hope that you are fine and you will accept my greetings. I am writing this letter to tell you that I was so happy to see your pictures, they were so cute and beautiful. I liked your pretty faces. I am so happy for spending time with your dad and he has been helping in computers and he is a hardworking man. We are so happy for spending time with him. I wish that he would stay here for a year but I understand you really miss him and it cant happen. You are such good and beautiful sisters to us. You are like our sisters and we love you. Work hard in schools and also I will work hard. Have a nice lifetime. From your sister Mary.

The next time you get a letter from your sponsored child, or the next time you write back, take a few extra minutes to realize the imapct that those words carry. And be blessed.
